Role Overview

As an Engineering Manager at Aspect Build, you’ll lead a team of highly skilled engineers developing the tools, rules, and services that enable teams to scale their builds, tests, and releases. You’ll work at the intersection of developer experience, cloud-native infrastructure, and open-source innovation—helping shape both our commercial product offerings and our open-source contributions to the Bazel ecosystem.

You’ll be responsible for guiding technical strategy, mentoring engineers, and ensuring the team delivers high-quality, impactful software that improves the way developers build and ship code.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a distributed team of software engineers focused on developer tools, build automation, and platform reliability.
  • Define technical direction and execution for key product areas—such as remote build execution, rulesets, developer onboarding, and CI/CD integrations.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Customer Success, and Solutions Engineering to align technical initiatives with customer needs.
  • Ensure software quality, maintainability, and performance through robust engineering processes and reviews.
  • Contribute to architectural decisions involving Bazel, Starlark, and modern build pipelines.
  • Champion developer experience and internal efficiency—both within Aspect Build and for customer engineering teams.
  • Support open-source engagement and community contributions within the Bazel and build systems ecosystem.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 7+ years of experience in software engineering, including 2+ years in a leadership or management role.
  • Strong background in build systems, platform engineering, CI/CD pipelines, or developer infrastructure.
  • Deep familiarity with Bazel, Pants, Buck, or related build tools.
  • Experience leading distributed teams and managing complex technical projects.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills—able to bridge engineering depth with customer-facing priorities.

Preferred:

  • Experience with polyglot development environments (e.g., Go, Python, Java, TypeScript, C++).
  • Understanding of cloud infrastructure (GCP, AWS, or similar) and remote execution systems.
  • Contribution to open-source developer tooling or build automation projects.
  • Background in scaling engineering teams within high-growth or infrastructure-focused startups.

Why Aspect Build

  • Work with industry leaders who helped develop Bazel and modern build systems at Google.
  • Shape the future of developer productivity and reproducible builds for enterprise-scale software.
  • A remote-first, engineering-led culture with strong open-source roots
  • Competitive compensation, meaningful equity, and flexible work arrangements.
