Role Overview

The Community & Events Lead is responsible for building and nurturing the global community around Bazel and Aspect’s platform. You will plan and execute key events (including BazelCon), represent Aspect in the developer ecosystem, create engaging content, and collaborate with customers, partners, and internal teams to bring our story to life.

This role blends event management, community building, developer advocacy, and marketing execution. It is an ideal position for someone who enjoys working with engineers, loves developer communities, and thrives in high-visibility, high-ownership positions.

Responsibilities

Event Management & Conference Leadership

  • Own the planning and execution of BazelCon, the annual community conference:
    • Manage logistics, venue/vendor relationships, budget, and event timeline
    • Coordinate CFP process, speaker outreach, and session programming
    • Collaborate with Engineering, Product, and partners to shape the agenda
    • Lead volunteer, staff, and sponsor coordination
    • Deliver a polished, community-focused event experience

  • Manage Aspect’s presence at industry conferences and technical events.
  • Plan and coordinate Aspect-sponsored meetups and community gatherings worldwide.

Community Development & Advocacy

  • Build and grow the Bazel and platform-engineering developer community through events, programs, and ongoing engagement.
  • Partner with local meetup organizers to provide sponsorships, speakers, content, and community resources.
  • Foster relationships with open-source contributors, developer influencers, and community leaders.
  • Develop programs that increase awareness and adoption of Bazel and Aspect’s platform.

Content & Podcast Production

  • Coordinate and record Aspect Insights, our ongoing technical podcast:
    • Identify topics and guests
    • Prepare interview outlines
    • Schedule recordings and manage post-production logistics
  • Create community-focused content including recaps, newsletters, interviews, and highlight videos.

Customer Success Storytelling

  • Work with Sales, Customer Success, and Product Marketing to produce high-quality customer success case studies showcasing Bazel adoption, build acceleration wins, CI/CD improvements, and developer-experience transformations.
  • Conduct interviews with engineering teams, interpret technical outcomes, and convert them into compelling written or video narratives.

Partner Collaboration

  • Support marketing and ecosystem initiatives with technology, cloud, and consulting partners.
  • Coordinate co-marketing activities, shared events, webinars, and content partnerships.
  • Maintain strong relationships to grow the Bazel ecosystem and expand Aspect’s reach.

Program Operations & Cross-Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with the Head of Marketing to align community and event strategies with the broader GTM plan.
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, DevRel, and Sales for event programming, speaker resources, and storytelling.

Track community metrics, event performance, and engagement trends—producing regular reports and recommendations.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • 3–7+ years in community management, developer relations, event production, or marketing roles focused on technical audiences.
  • Proven experience planning conferences, meetups, or large-scale technical events.
  • Strong understanding of developer communities and B2B technical marketing.
  • Excellent communication skills—capable of interviewing engineers, moderating sessions, and hosting events or podcasts.
  • Strong writing and narrative-building abilities (blogs, case studies, recaps, email updates).
  • Highly organized, detailed, and comfortable managing complex multi-stakeholder programs.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with marketing, engineering, and product teams.
  • Ability to travel for conferences, meetups, recording sessions, and partner events.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in developer tooling, platform engineering, CI/CD, monorepos, or build systems.
  • Familiarity with Bazel, rules ecosystems, or modern build tools.
  • Experience with podcast management, video interviews, or content production workflows.
  • Background working with partner ecosystems (cloud, DevOps, or enterprise software vendors).

Ability to create or oversee basic event collateral, graphics, or presentation materials.

Why Aspect Build

  • Work with industry leaders who helped develop Bazel and modern build systems at Google.
  • Shape the future of developer productivity and reproducible builds for enterprise-scale software.
  • A remote-first, engineering-led culture with strong open-source roots.
  • Competitive compensation, meaningful equity, and flexible work arrangements.
