# The Bazel profile timeline, in the browser

***

![Timing tab showing the critical path, main thread, and evaluator threads](https://mintcdn.com/aspectbuild/mPlChZw_LzKUv7Pq/images/marketing/web-ui/build-timeline.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=mPlChZw_LzKUv7Pq\&q=85\&s=1ac2f5f8aa49aa7d30e884f4d3f94e7f)

Every slow CI build has a profile that explains it. Reading it used to mean finding the build, downloading `command.profile.gz`, and dragging it into `chrome://tracing` or Perfetto.

Now the **Timing** tab of every build in the [Build Results UI](https://aspect.build/platform/web-ui) renders the profile in place, with the critical path pinned on top of the main and evaluator threads.

* **Zoom and pan.** Scroll to zoom, drag to pan.
* **Measure a span.** Shift-drag across the timeline to see how many actions ran in that window and where the time went, by mnemonic.
* **Find one action.** Search by action name, target, or mnemonic and highlight every match.

The download button is still there when you want the raw trace.

The timeline needs Bazel's full profile with target labels on each action. Bazel slims the profile by default, which hides the true critical path, so set these on CI:

```bash .bazelrc theme={null}
common:ci --profile=command.profile.gz
common:ci --noslim_profile
common:ci --experimental_profile_include_target_label
```

The profile reaches the UI through the remote cache. [Repository setup](https://aspect.build/docs/aspect-workflows/platform/guides/webui-repository-setup.md) has the full flag set, including the upload flags.

It's on Aspect Cloud and Aspect Enterprise. See the [Build Results UI docs](https://aspect.build/docs/aspect-workflows/platform/features/webui.md) for the other tabs.
