# Bazel results on GitLab merge requests

***

![A GitLab merge request with a commit status per Aspect task and a rolling summary note](https://mintlify.s3.us-west-1.amazonaws.com/aspectbuild/images/marketing/illustrations/shipped-gitlab-support.svg)

A red pipeline badge tells a reviewer that something failed. Which target, and why, is a job log away.

The Aspect CLI now reports to GitLab merge requests the way it does to GitHub pull requests:

* **`GitlabCommitStatuses`** puts a commit status per task on the commit under review, moving from `pending` through `running` to `success`, `failed`, `skipped`, or `canceled`.
* **`GitlabStatusComments`** keeps one merge request note with every task's live status, updated as jobs finish.
* **`GitlabLintComments`** posts `aspect lint` findings as discussions on the diff, with suggestion blocks a reviewer applies in one click.

On gitlab.com, link the [Aspect Workflows GitLab App](https://aspect.build/docs/cli/authentication-gitlab.md) once for your top-level group. On a self-hosted instance or GitLab Dedicated, set `ASPECT_GITLAB_TOKEN` to an access token with `api` scope and `ASPECT_GITLAB_API_URL` to your API base instead (Aspect CLI v2026.41.12 or later). GitLab CI already sets `CI_API_V4_URL`, which the CLI also reads.

Getting the CLI onto your runners is one `include:` of the GitLab CI component; [Aspect Cloud CI setup](https://aspect.build/docs/aspect-workflows/cloud/ci-setup.md) has the snippet. To change what the statuses and note say, see [customizing CI status surfaces](https://aspect.build/docs/cli/guides/status-surfaces.md).

The [Workflows Bot](https://aspect.build/platform/workflows-bot) is free to use on GitHub and GitLab.
